Palau Moja, an 18th-century neoclassical palace , one of the symbol of Catalan cultural heritage - recently, it has transformed into a space that tells story with different technology through their exhibition called Catalunya: Patrimoni Viu . As a designer with a deep interest in visual storytelling, XR experiences, and creative technology, i visited to see what i can learn from there

Each visitor receives a digital bracelet that acts as a checkpoint throughout the exhibition. As you move through different interactive stations—whether it’s a VR experience, a hologram, or a historical game—you tag your bracelet, which logs your choices and preferences. At the end of the visit, you get an email with tailored recommendations for places to visit around Catalonia, based on what caught your interest. I will cover a couple of notable experience for me below :
1. Capsules del temps - Location Based VR Room

In XR, interaction mechanics shape the user experience, and one detail that stood out to me was the combination of visual cues and audio object attached. The experience used a particle system with a soft glow to highlight interactable artifacts and the artifact is attached to object-triggered audio, it adds another layer of interactivity but also a wayfinding for user experience. I write about Designing for Location Based VR in here

After the virtual experience, I had the chance to visit the actual salon within the palace and explore the mobile experience. Opting for the guided visit, I realized how much rich historical context was missing from the other formats. The depth of storytelling, anecdotes, and layered insights added so much more to the experience. This highlighted a clear opportunity to make narratives richer and more discoverable within immersive experiences.

I feel like this year, location-based VR experiences are evolving through UI-driven interactions to introduce richer narratives. Rather than relying solely on passive exploration, there’s a shift towards spatial UI prompts.
2. Depth Perception in 360 Video
The creativity idea that goes into one of scenes within the 360 degree video is that the despth perspection technique. I feel like the video is captured using dual lenses to create separate left and right eye views, to simulate real-world depth perception. The result is a hologram-like effect using a technique of what i think a Pepper’s Ghost projection Technique to add real-world depth perception. I really like the technique.

Here i am highlighting my walkthrough for XR Design , nonenthless there are many other interactive experiences throughout the exhibition - Each room invited visitors to interact in different ways—whether it was navigating a digital map through sensors , exploring gastronomy through touchscreens interactions , listening to recorded voices, or engaging with multimedia timelines using our hand to bring time forward or backward.

Interactions is really the keyword of this place.
With the rise of interactive technologies, traditional static displays are evolving into dynamic, participatory environments that encourage deeper engagement. This shift is tried to be adapted by museums that seek to attract and retain the attention of younger generations, who have grown up in a world where digital interaction is second nature. By incorporating touchscreens, sensors, augmented reality, and responsive installations, cultural spaces are aligning themselves with how the next generation consumes and processes information—through exploration, participation, and multi-sensory experiences. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a design professional, or simply curious about how technology is reshaping cultural experiences, this exhibition is definitely worth checking out!
