As part of the Next U Education Digital Commerce Expedition, I had the opportunity to facilitate an XR workshop for Webtech and ESCEN students at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. During their one-month expedition, the program focused on giving students hands-on experience in developing and presenting complete e-commerce solutions. The workshop I conducted was the XR segment within their e-commerce platform.
The session introduced students to various use cases of immersive technologies in e-commerce and modern retail. Working on tailored projects for iconic local brands like Bodegas López, Dolceria De La Colmena, Clavell & Morgades, and FC Barcelona, they explored and brainstormed how AR/VR could increase consumer engagement and enhance the shopping experience.
To bring these concepts to life, I partnered with Onirix AR, a platform specializing in building accessible and user-friendly AR experiences.
IPV ( Interactive Product Visualisation )
Based on each of the brand jobs to be done and needs , the workshop started with a focus to generate ideas that uses Image-based Placement Visualization (IPV) as a key approach for integrating AR into their e-commerce platforms.
FC Barcelona: Student created an visualisation on shoe sizes onto a user’s foot, making size comparisons easy, helps users easily compare sizes, ensuring a proper fit even on online purchase
Bodegas Lopez Morenas: Students created an AR Wine Pairing tool where scanning wine packaging shows a charcuterie board suggestion, aligning food and wine preferences through IPV.
Clavell & Morgades: Students designed an IPV-based tool allowing customers to visualize real size of the furniture in their space, reducing purchase hesitation.
Pastisseria La Colmena: The "Cookie Pairing" AR tool let customers scan cookie packaging to get tea or coffee pairing recommendations, enhancing engagement and upselling opportunities.
